Our Inspectors
JOHN A. BEAN John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University (1983). After college, he worked
as a Project Engineer for a subsidiary of National Steel. From 1986 to 2001, he was employed by Associated Building
Analysts as a home inspector. In 2001, founded BEAN & HEYL Home Inspections, Inc with Tom Heyl. John has performed
more than 10,000 home inspections, consultations and termite inspections over his 20+ years as an inspector. He is a
member of A.S.H.I. since 1988 (American Society of Home Inspectors) and has a certified non-commercial applicator license
for termite inspections.
THOMAS J. HEYL Tom has extensive building/construction experience as a home builder and general contractor for over 10 years.
He has been inspecting homes for over 15 years. In 2001, he co-founded BEAN & HEYL Home Inspections, Inc.
Tom has performed over 6500 inspections and has a specialty in commercial inspections, construction inspections and multi-family
buildings. Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business and is a long time member of the American Society
of Home Inspectors
JOSEPH L. CAWEIN Joseph has an Associate of Technology degree from Ranken Technical College, and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil
Engineering from the Washington University and UMSL joint engineering program. He has performed nearly 2,600 inspections.
Joe’s past experience includes working in project engineering for a local utility company. He has attended numerous
professional inspection seminars and workshops, and has professional training and hands-on experience in general contracting,
carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. He has been a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors since 2000, and
has a certified non-commercial applicator license for termite inspections. KENNETH R. COLTER Ken has inspected homes for nearly ten years, performing well over 4500 inspections and consultations. Ken has
a Master of Science degree in Safety Science from Central Missouri State. He is certified from B.O.C.A. (Building Officials
and Code Administrators) in Mechanical Systems. He is a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors and has a
certified non-commercial applicator license for termite inspections. Ken specializes in Heating and Cooling systems,
with over 30 years experience. He ran a small heating & cooling company for several years. He has been involved
in the aviation community for many years.
